Shortly after "Regime Change" was released, President Trump lashed out at Haberman on Truth Social, calling her “a third-rate writer and intellect” and dismissing the book as “mostly made up, Fake News, largely fiction.” The attack did little to slow it: the book has sold more than 500,000 copies and was on the the Times nonfiction bestseller list for 11 weeks.

In 2018, she was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on Trump’s advisers and their connections to Russia. In 2021 she was part of a team that was a Pulitzer finalist for coverage of President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus.

Since joining The Times as a campaign reporter in 2015, Haberman has covered five presidential elections, several governors’ races, and New York City mayoral races. Her earlier reporting included Rudolph W. Giuliani’s second term at City Hall, Hillary Clinton’s 2000 U.S. Senate race, both of President Obama’s national campaigns, and the rebuilding at the World Trade Center site.
