The Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump: Don't Miss This Urgent Conversation

Our next meeting features Julian E. Zelizer, one of the nation’s leading historians and political analysts. Zelizer is a Princeton University history professor, a columnist for Foreign Policy, former CNN contributor, and author/editor of 27 books.  He’s written more than 1,500 op-eds, is quoted regularly in the New York Times and appears on countless tv and radio shows. His most recent book, In Defense of Partisanship, challenges the conventional wisdom that intense political partisanship is the source of American democracy's problems.

Perhaps counter intuitively, Zelizer argues that a "responsible partisanship" could be a functional way for political parties to compete on policy while still being able to govern.

He is currently working on a new book about the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and the 1964 Democratic Convention entitled ‘Is this America?: Reckoning with Racism at the 1964 Atlantic City Democratic Convention' and an edited volume, 'The Presidency of Joseph Biden Jr: A First Historical Assessment.' Zelizer's substack newsletter,  The Long View,  has  14,000 subscribers in its first year.
